Port Talbot Sport-Sid Thompson
It has come as a blow to all who knew him to learn that Sid
Thompson, the one time clever wing, who has taken part in many a hard game for Abveravan,
had the misfortune to lose his leg this week.
The amputation followed as the result of a very simple mishap
from all outward appearances.Thompson was apparently kicking the ball about just after
Christmas when he fell awkwardly and injured his leg.Septic poisoning (supervened), and it
was found necessary as sta...to perform an amputation.
Local sports (supporters) have felt the loss to Rugby of a
very clever centre and I understand that it is the intention of the Aberavan Rugby
Committee to organise a super Rugby fixture as a form of benefit.
The attraction will the take the form of a county match
between Glamorgan and Monmouth, to be played on the Central Gaelic Ground sometime next
month and it is the unanimous hope of everyone who knows him for the good sportsman that
he is, that a very substantial sum will be forthcoming from the fixture.
